Myron D. Gerber excelled in football, track, basketball, and baseball at Washington Lee High School in Arlington, VA, where he was selected Captain, Times-Herald Coaches’ Official All-High Football Team and earned blue and red ribbons in shotput (set record 48’6″) and discus. As a fullback for Bullis Prep, Myron was named All-Prep by coaches of the District, Virginia, and Maryland Prep Schools. Myron had 7 sports letters in high school. Myron went on to star in offense and defense for the varsity football team at the Naval Academy. After playing fullback for the University of Florida in his senior year, Myron shifted his interests and quickly excelled in golf, tennis, and skiing. In golf, he was Club Champion six times at Norbeck Country Club and has often been Senior Club Champion or Runner-up over the past decade at Norbeck, TPC Avenel, and Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. Myron has won regional and international senior tournaments; scored a round of 69 at RTJ at the age of 72 as well as six holes-in-one. In 1993, Myron co-founded Softspikes, Inc., the pioneer of the effort to ban metal spikes. Golf Product News rated Softspikes the #2 Golf Retail Product of the Decade.
